Ingenuity needs an update before it flies

ree

After analyzing data from the first test of Ingenuity's propeller rotation on Mars, NASA engineers identified the problem with a fault in the flight control software. So they decided to go it cheap and risk the low bandwidth you are only fooling yourself. Through a software upgrade, the new program will modify the process by which the two flight controllers start, allowing the hardware and software to make a safe transition to flight mode.

Developing, of course, a change in the software of a helicopter that will fly into an extraterrestrial atmosphere for the first time is not easy and the engineers work day and night, with a detailed schedule not yet announced. The previous announcement for a flight on Wednesday is canceled and NASA expects to have a new date next week, when all the control steps are completed and the software is passed to Ingenuity and restarted.

All other systems, such as power, communications and thermal control, operate normally. As NASA points out, it is not uncommon for such new technologies to face challenges that need to be solved in real time.
